Crime: Grand theft auto. It'll take him something like 4 months before he connects it to the time he "borrowed" someone's horse and never got around to giving it back.

Personality:

First impressions: friendly, nice, if you're female he'll also likely hit on you. He tries to project (with differing levels of success) a certain amount of idiocy. That he only has rocks in his head, and he has to desperately knock them together to spark an idea. He's acts like he's the class underachiever who got a solid 2.0 GPA back in high school, but is pretty! And rich. So it's okay.

His true nature is more complicated. He's smarter than he lets people see. He's clever. He has suspicions about a certain incident, the Tragedy of Duscur, and suspects a set-up of some kind: he's right. Sylvain's loyal, to Dimitri, to Faerghus, to the point in which he dies for Dimitri and Faerghus unless the player goes out of their way to prevent that. He always inherits and becomes Margrave Gautier, and does a good job of it. He goes out of his way to end an unending war and forges a peace.

Sylvain has very low self worth because he's well aware that he was made heir because he was born with a Crest, and it's kind of fucked him up and he feels like his worth is derived from it. If he was born Crestless, that he wouldn't be valued. And, well, he's kind of right: his older brother, Miklan, was disinherited because of his lack of Crest. Sylvain exists because his father wanted an heir with a Crest. His brother tried to kill him multiple times because of it, even. Once, he got dropped down a well. Another time, he got left abandoned on a mountain to die of exposure.

Sylvain feels trapped by this, his role as the future Margrave Gautier. And because of this, Sylvain feels like he doesn't really have a choice about his future. Why have ambitions outside of what you're expected to become if you're predestined to fill a certain role? And so on. (And yet the ironic thing is that in time Sylvain realizes that he does have choices, he can become what he wants to be and he...always inherits and goes on to fulfill his duty.)

Sylvain fears intimacy and being known.

This manifests in a few ways, one of them being that Sylvain's a flirt and flirts with a lot of girls to the point that I feel like I'll need to send apologies to any unknowing people who tag him, but Sylvain also tends to self destruct those relationships before they can become anything meaningful. He acts like an ass, is an ass, can be a misogynist but it's complicated. Because he's got friends who are women and has a wide array of really weirdly supportive, uh. Supports. (I'm pretty sure you know what supports are, so tl;dr version: conversations between characters that deepen their relationships, build character, and provide bonuses in battle.) But also, his society has an obsession with Crests, and nobles with have them - men and women - are typically expected to be fruitful and multiply, and their worth is derived from whether or not they have one.

Sylvain - to one of the few people he lets his guard down around canonically - says that most people are only interested in him because of his inheritance, his Crest. And that person...agrees that he's probably right and can relate, because she's hot and people see her for her tits before they see her as a person.

He's angry at society and what's expected of him, basically. There's a lot of self-sabotage going on and he's basically got a shitty self-fulfilling prophecy going on. Sylvain shows up, people have their guards up because of his justifiably shitty reputation (he is not a good person), he shrugs it off and they end on some friendly note, and the canonical relationship ends before they start to dig into what lies behind his mask. And since they don't really know him, the cycle continues with someone else.

Abilities:

He can...

• Stab things. FE3H has this thing called combat arts which make sense in the game and make absolutely no sense in terms of DWRP, so I'm going to ignore those. (Because really, if he stabs in one way then it does normal damage, and if he stabs in a slightly different way it does additional damage to mounted units - when would this come up?)

• Has a minor Crest of Gautier which amplifies combat arts so I'm going to just say 'sometimes it flares up and he hits slightly harder than normal.' The Crest of Gautier also keeps him from being turned into a monster if he uses his Lance of Ruin and other associated relics.

• Knows how to ride a horse which...feels right to throw in.

• And also basic fire spells, emphasis on basic. He can set things on fire and maybe elfire, he cannot burn down a mansion through the force of his pyrotechnic powers.

Inventory: An axe, armor, two empty potion bottles, a black iron spur he's pretty sure is Felix's but never got around to giving back.

(No lance because I want him to go 'wtf where's the Lance of Ruin' and then scream when he inevitably gets it back.)
